We're excited about this project! This is the first mission ministry
initiated and developed by Lexsus Foundation. This also serves as our
pilot project on mission ministries.
Successes and lessons learned here will be applied to other
mission ministries to be developed in the future.
Project Area:
The project area is located in the following interior towns
of Cebu, Philippines:
Sac-on
Basak
Lupa
Mulao
Paril
Tag-angilan
These towns are within the mountainous regions of the
Cebu City and the municipalities of Liloan and Compostela, in
the Visayan Region of the Philippines.
Overall Objective:
To provide spiritual revival and help uplift socioeconomic conditions
to the residents within the project area.
Methods Toward Achieving the Objective:
- Provide financial support to missionary ministers.
Residents in the project
area are, in general, economically poor. As a result, members of local
Christian churches are unable to hire full time pastors causing sharp
decline of
church goers and the deterioration of existing church facilities.
To help turn this around, the foundation provides
financial support to the missionary ministers in the area.
The missionary ministers will be serving the spiritual needs of the residents,
providing spiritual revival, and initiating/coordinating socioeconomic programs
and humanitarian services. The financial support will help defray the administrative
and operational costs needed for such ministry. The current missionary ministers
in the area are the
husband and wife ministry team of
Rev. and Mrs. Eleno and Erlina Bingtan (click here
to read their Ministerial Profiles).
- Support pre-school education and adult literacy
programs to the project area.
Although Philippines has free public education, but because of the
project area's remoteness, public pre-school education is not
available. The parents are unable
to provide preparatory education to their children because all available
family members work in their
farms through out the day, and that several adults are illiterate
themselves. Thus, several children
are not adequately prepared to enter elementary schools
causing learning difficulties and some to drop out.
To fill-in the need, a retired minister living in the area developed and ran
a pre-school program; this program has become popular to adults
as well that adult literacy program was also developed. The foundation
will work with this existing voluntary educational programs
by providing books, toys, children's clothing, teaching aids, school
materials, and funding support.
- Coordinate medical and dental outreach services.
There are no medical facilities within
the project area. Several residents haven't seen a doctor or dentist
for years. One of the goals of this mission is to coordinate
free medical and dental outreach through volunteer medical
practitioners and donated medicines. These volunteers, mostly from medical
facilities and schools in Cebu City, will make scheduled visits to the area
to be coordinated by the missionary ministers.
Medical mission from the United States may also be coordinated
in the future.
- Provide humanitarian and poverty relief
by sending goods (-used clothing, books, toys, tools, food items, etc.)
donated by supporters here in the United States.
- Provide scholarships to students who otherwise are unable
to to attend school due
to their economic situations.
- Provide part-time mission workers
to perform variety of volunteer tasks
such as rebuilding/repairing church facilities,
training local leaders, and
teaching socioeconomic skills to the residents.
